Chelsea Star Cole Palmer Reveals Frustration with England's Euro 2024 Campaign
England's Cole Palmer Admits Disappointment Over Lack of Game Time
Palmer Scored England's Equalizer in Euro 2024 Final but Couldn't Prevent Heartbreaking Defeat
Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer has spoken out about his frustration after struggling for regular game time at Euro 2024.The 22-year-old, who scored England's equalizer in the final against Spain, played just 85 minutes in Gareth Southgate's team's five matches at the tournament.
Palmer, who has been a regular for Chelsea this season, said he found the experience of Euro 2024 "frustrating" and revealed that he expected to play a bigger role.
“It was a difficult tournament for me to be honest. I felt like I could have offered more to the team, especially in the early games," He said.
"I worked hard in training and did everything I could to impress the manager, but it wasn't to be.”
Palmer's frustration is understandable. He is one of the most promising young players in England and has been in excellent form for Chelsea this season. He has scored 27 goals in all competitions for the Blues and has helped them win the Premier League title.
However, Palmer has found it difficult to replicate his club form for England. He has made just 12 appearances for the Three Lions and has yet to score.
England manager Gareth Southgate has defended his decision to leave Palmer on the bench for much of Euro 2024. Southgate said he has a number of talented attacking players at his disposal and that Palmer is still a young player who is learning his trade.
"Cole is a very good player and I have no doubt that he will go on to have a great career for England. But he is still young and he needs to be patient,", Southgate said.
"We have a lot of competition for places in the team and I have to pick the players who I think will give us the best chance of winning.”
Palmer will be hoping to get more playing time for England in the future. He is a talented player with a bright future and he will be desperate to prove his worth to Gareth Southgate.
