New Program to Treat Peanut Allergies in Babies

Partnership between NACE and MCRI

The National Allergy Centre of Excellence (NACE) and the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) have partnered to offer a new treatment program for babies with peanut allergies in Australia.

Program Details

The program, which is the first of its kind in the world, will offer free treatment to children under 12 months of age who have been diagnosed with a peanut allergy and are receiving care from an allergist.

The treatment involves gradually exposing the child to small amounts of peanut protein over a period of time, with the goal of building up their tolerance to peanuts and reducing the risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction.

Prevalence of Peanut Allergies

Australia has one of the highest rates of peanut allergy in the world, with around 3% of children under 12 years of age affected.

Peanut allergies can be very dangerous, and can even be fatal in some cases. This new program aims to reduce the risk of severe allergic reactions and improve the quality of life for children with peanut allergies.
