Davis Thompson Wins First PGA Tour Title

Thompson Shoots 7-Under 64 to Set 72-Hole Tournament Record

In his 63rd PGA Tour start, Davis Thompson has finally won his first tour title. The 27-year-old American shot a closing 7-under-par 64 at the John Deere Classic in Illinois on Sunday to win by four strokes over Chris Kirk.

Thompson started the day with a two-shot lead over Kirk and Kim Si-woo, and he never looked back. He birdied the first two holes to extend his lead to four, and he made the turn in 3-under 32. Thompson then birdied the 11th and 12th holes to take a five-shot lead, and he cruised to victory from there.

"It's an incredible feeling," Thompson said. "I've been working so hard for this, and to finally get it done is just amazing. I'm so grateful to my family and friends for all of their support."

Thompson is the son of PGA Tour veteran Scott Thompson, and he has been playing golf since he was a child. He played college golf at the University of Georgia, and he turned professional in 2016. Thompson has had a solid PGA Tour career, but he had never won a tournament before Sunday.

With his victory at the John Deere Classic, Thompson has earned a spot in the field for the British Open, which will be played at St. Andrews in Scotland next month.
